Aviation Career Exploration Academy Students Attend Fly-In

The Montana Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division hosted the annual fly-in at the Canyon Ferry airport near the Silos subdivision on June 28. The fly-in was the culmination of a career camp for high school students interested in learning to fly who attended the annual Aviation Career Exploration (ACE) Academy in Helena.
Matt Lindberg, who works at Montana Aeronautics, said that 19 planes and two helicopters showed up for the fly-in. The 15 students who went to Canyon Ferry Airport were all bunched up around Jim Booth’s 1969 Faust PA-12 seaplane. Jim, who lives in Bozeman, used to fly to Townsend Airport when the annual July 4th fly-ins were held there.
Another plane of interest was a 1995 KITFOX IV, currently owned by Michael Kreikemeir out of Belgrade. This plane is by Douglas Patrick. Wade Litton of Townsend owns a 1967 Cessna 182, which was tied down at the Canyon Ferry Airport. I have flown this plane in the past.
As mentioned, the ACE Academy flights, tours, and fly-in are an annual event, something that all of the participants really enjoy. Students, the pilots who give rides and also those who fly to the Canyon Ferry Airport for the fly-in plan on coming out next year.
