Farmers Market Opens in Two Different Locations
MT43 News Staff Reporter
A second farmer’s market will open the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month on Broadway at Memorial Park, according to Market Manager Sheree Beauchamps. The Saturday market will open from 11a.m. to 3 p.m. The market is open for both county and regional vendors to sell their wares.
The original Farmer’s Market, open traditionally with local goods only, on Highway 287 across from TB’s Diner, will keep its Thursday opening from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. each week.
“We are starting off strong with around 14 different vendors this year,” Beauchamps said, “but we need vegetables. It’s early, so it will be a while before we have a selection of local ones.”
The market has rhubarb, radishes and spinach currently for sale, in addition to vendors who offer breads, salsas and jellies and jams and dry goods. Braaten meats also sell their frozen meats each week.
When Beauchamps and her husband Sam were first involved with the Farmer’s Market, they felt something was missing. Future Farmers of America (FFA) leader and high school teacher Jemma Loughery gave them an idea when she hosted a hamburger and hot dog stand at one of the markets as a fundraiser for FFA. Beauchamps and her husband both took to the idea: “Food is what we needed to draw in people to the market. So, we put together the Barbeque Brisket Wagon in 2017. We do see more people on a regular basis,” she said.
The charge for setting up a booth at the market is $5.00 per week for the Thursday market and $10 per week for the Saturday market. Beauchamps encourages anyone who has a passion for arts and crafts, baking, or canning to think about setting up a booth. “It’s a great way to start a little business,” she said.
