East Helena’s City Council adopted a resolution to issue bonds to cover its portion of approximately $6.9 million in loans from the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation revolving fund. The funds will be used to pay for work already begun on upgrading the city’s sewer system facility to address equipment improvements and capacity.
Mayor Kelly Harris said that he anticipated no increases in local sewer rates would be needed to offset the cost of bond repayment.
Council Member Wesley Feist confirmed with City Clerk Amy Thorngren that the city's existing water bond debt should be retired within the next two years.
