1941
“Local News”
J.P. Kearns, daughter Phoebe and Mrs. J.W. Kearns spent the first few days of the week in Spokane visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Davey and attending Commencement at Gonzaga when Mr. Kearn’s grandson Joseph Davey graduated from high school.
Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Kirscher have moved their household effects from their ranch in Canton Valley to their town house and are now settled permanently here. Their son, Glenn, has charge of the ranch properties.
Dana Bradford was in Townsend Saturday visiting his mother, Mrs. A.W. Ridgeway. Dana, who had been stationed at McCord Field is an army flyer and was sited to do two weeks of recruiting work at Fort Missoula.
1958
“Local News”
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Sullivan took their daughter, Mary Pat, to Billings first of the week where she will be in nurse training at St. Vincent’s Hospital during the summer. Accompanying the Sullivans on the trip was their niece, Renell Jenkins, of Helena.
Mr. and Mrs. John Hunter left Thursday for Cascade to make their home. Mr. Hunter is employed by Hilde Construction Company. They have lived in Townsend the past four years.
Nan Ragen, who has been employed in Spokane the past year, returned to Townsend to spend the summer with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ragen. She has accepted a position in Chicago and will start working there in September.
In the drawing held for the graduates of Junior High by the Time Shop, Charlene Adams was winner of the watch.
Mr. and Mrs. Logan Davis and family spent the weekend in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wray Thompson. Mrs. Thompson is a sister of Mrs. Davis. The boys remained for a longer visit.
Patricia Holling of Spokane spent the holiday weekend with her mother, Mrs. Hazel Holling of Townsend.
1975
“Toston-South of Townsend-Crow Creek”
Jean Berberet has returned from a sightseeing trip to the Grand Canyon Lake Mead and Death Valley. She will be returning to Jackson, Wyoming to take a job on June 2 as program assistant for the National Park Service.
Kelly Flynn will be leaving this week for Western Montana College to be a counselor for the Boys State, sponsored by the American Legion.
Ethel Scoffield, June McMurdie Donna Grover, Marion Iverson, Maxine Toombs and Wanda Thompson enjoyed shopping and lunch in Helena on Thursday.
This weekend Dan Moudree, Brad Scoffield and Tom Ragen will be leaving with others from the colleges of Missoula and Bozeman, for Nashville, Tennessee where they will be employed for the summer.
Lee Lewis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Lewis, was eight years old Saturday. Mrs. Junior Lewis was a dinner guest to help him celebrate.
Mrs. Blayne Van Camp, Chris and Gene and Mrs. Arkie Cross fished on the Missouri River Saturday afternoon, 5-year old Chris caught a 4 ½ lb. German Brown trout on a worm while everyone else caught suckers.

“Around Town News”
John Campbell of Jacksonville, Fla. Recently visited his grandmother, Frances Etzwiler.
The Canton Women’s Club met recently at Mildred Neild’s. Attending were Helen Burmaster, Helen Kleffner, Ruth Zimmerman, Helen Barrow, Ruth Blaseg, Rene Dagnall, Margaret Kenny, Lillian McCammon, Neila Neilson, Mary Olsen, Anna Marie Plymale, Ione Schwisow, Barbara Teller.
Roll call was “Remembering Mom”. Ways mentioned included “Always teaching”, “combination of the safe”, and others. Co-hostesses were Edna Guffey, Barbara Teller and Lillian McCammon. The club’s next meeting will be held Sept. 17 at Ruth Zimmerman’s.
