Roland Heaton's Memorial

Saturday, May 17, was such a beautifully sunny day. It was as if Roland held back the rain and the clouds just long enough for everyone to enjoy being together while we all honored his memory. The American Legion, Sons of the American Legion and Women's Auxiliary all came together to help escort all of Roland's family and friends from the American Legion Post to Veteran Park. A six-gun salute was given to our comrade as we honored his well-known tractor covered in the American flag and other regalia. All the things that helped Roland stand out while he was parked on Broadway were hanging on his wagon just as much as his loss hangs on our hearts.

Roland helped everyone he could. He valued his time with his brothers and sisters in the American Legion, as he was a Vietnam Veteran with his own recoveries and spiritual rewards. He participated in Roots to Recovery and helped at the Birds Nest as much as his body would allow. There are so many things that this man did for his community. All in service to God and to his soul's longing for peace. Thank you to everyone in attendance for his services and the funeral that took place at Fort Harrison on Monday, May 19. True rest beside the wife that he loves so much is finally well at way.
