HELENA -The Montana Office of Public Instruction (OPI) is pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the 2026 Montana Teacher of the Year. This prestigious honor recognizes excellence in teaching and celebrates educators who are making a lasting difference in the lives of students across the state.
Each year, the Montana Teacher of the Year program honors a classroom teacher who embodies innovation, leadership, and dedication to student success. The selected teacher will serve as an ambassador for all Montana educators and will be considered for the National Teacher of the Year award.
"Montana’s teachers work hard for our students, and this is our opportunity to highlight and celebrate those who go above and beyond every day," said Susie Hedalen, Superintendent of Public Instruction. "We encourage students, parents, colleagues, and community members to nominate a deserving teacher who inspires and empowers others."
Eligibility and Nomination
Nominees must be currently certified and employed in a Montana school (public or accredited non-public) as a PreK–12 classroom teacher. Nominations can be submitted by anyone, including fellow educators, school leaders, parents, and students.
