It was a weird week here. As I am writing, I have 16 days until I am finished with the Spring Semester of 2025. All of my professors are starting to demand their final projects, and the time feels like there will never be enough. My planner always seems to be open, and sticky notes cover my wall and my mini fridge near my desk. I have twenty credits, making for a total of eight classes. This past week, I finished two of them, but the other six have been pushing me like crazy. The prep for finals week is no joke. So, when stress is so high, how do I regulate my day to continue my motivation while still keeping my sanity during these final weeks?
Prioritize friends! Your schoolwork should always come first, however, friends are your best accountability partners as well as a social outlet. This past week, I had friends in my dorm ⅗ of the week days. It consisted of Bible Study, a small hangout, and a homework session. Being able to socialize and simply talk about what was going on in the week was a perfect way for me to reset my mind into study mode.
Next, it is important to do the things you love. I am obsessed with plants. On the downside, I get my boyfriend complaining that I don’t have enough room. But, on the bright side, my mom encourages me, saying that if you don’t tell anybody, it means you didn’t buy any plants, plus, it gives me a healthy dose of serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins! This past week, I went to a Study Succs event. Not only was it a perfect play on words, but I had the opportunity to paint a few pots, plant plants, take home study snacks and drinks, and the best part, take those plants home! Not only was it the perfect study break, but it also gave me an outlet right next to my study spot to keep me sane.
Last but not least, travel. For me, this consisted of going four and a half hours to Dickinson to see family, but it could be anything as simple as grocery shopping. A change of scenery is always a motivator. It gives you time to do something other than homework and can rejuvenate your entire day. This past weekend, I had the opportunity to support my younger cousin on his big day and see family I haven’t seen in years.
In these final weeks, your sanity is most important. To keep you thriving, I find it most important that you set time aside to spend time with friends, do the things you love, and even travel. Please do not hear me saying that you shouldn’t eat or sleep. Set time aside from that, too, but don’t underestimate the power of doing something other than “Homework, Eat, Sleep, Repeat.” Finals are no joke. Keep your sanity this week!
