The Townsend Elementary School recently held its’ annual Kindergarten Roundup for children in the pre to kindergarten age group who will be entering school this fall. During the event the youngsters demonstrated various skills by using building blocks, selecting items of various colors, counting the number of items on the table, and many other activities. School staff could then determine how ready for school the kids were.

Some of the youngsters are eager to start school this fall while others are not so sure. One memorable incident was when a youngster showed us the dinosaur she had colored. The toenails were quite small, colored pink, and extreme care had been taken not to color outside the lines.

If the vision and/or hearing screening indicated a potential problem, it was suggested the child see a medical doctor for further evaluation.

The children were amused when White Sulphur Springs Lion Club member Gerald Zarr showed them the “picture” of their eyes during the vision screening.

Fifty youths were screened during the event and Elementary Principal Steven Cook is very appreciative of the many volunteers and school personnel who worked to make the event successful.
