The Manhattan Christian Invitational track meet in Belgrade sure started with a bang on Saturday, April 19th, as the Bulldogs won the first four races of the day, sweeping the boys and girls 3200-meter runs and the 110- and 100-meter hurdles.
The ladies' team went on to place 2nd overall with 134.83 points to Manhattan’s 136, while the gentlemen placed fourth with 81 points.
Standout performances on the ladies’ side were given by a couple of experienced upperclassmen. Senior Jazlyn Martin threw her season’s bests in all three disciplines, finishing 3rd, 4th and 8th in the discus, shot put, and javelin, respectively. Junior Aspen Slyker threw to a 5th place finish in the javelin, while also showcasing her speed in the 200-meter dash and 110-meter hurdles; additionally, her leg of the 4x100-meter dash was lightning fast, helping her team win.
Sophomore Jim Tew looked impressive, winning the 110-meter hurdles, finishing 2nd in the long jump, and helping the short relay finish 2nd. The mid-distance runners had a strong showing with almost universal PRs at the 200-, 400-, and 800-meter distances, as did all the horizontal jumpers.
Senior Nolan Flynn ran his best two-mile ever to win, followed by a 3rd in the mile, before highlighting his speed with a fast split on the long relay.
