Broadwater County Treasurer

Date: April 11, 2025

Dear Property Owner:

As a tax-paying property owner in Broadwater County, you are probably aware of the support your property tax dollars provide for the education of our children. Whether your taxes support the Townsend School District or Three Forks School District, your tax dollars are appreciated.

Levying property taxes for schools is an important function of the Broadwater County Treasurer’s Office and we work hard to bill and collect the proper amount of taxes.

This year an error was made in calculating the school levies. Taxes were over-levied by 11.16 mills in the Townsend School District and by a combined 12.35 mills in the Three Forks Elementary and Three Forks High School Districts for a county-wide total of $314,109.15.

I apologize for this error, and I want to make this right.

Enclosed will be a check that reimburses you for the property tax overcharge. The amount is for the total overcharge of all your properties in Broadwater County. This total amount was calculated based on where your property is located and the corresponding school district. Your second half tax payment will remain the same as the first half. This check refunds the overcharge for the full year.

As the County Treasurer, I want to assure you that I will do everything I can to avoid causing this kind of error in the future. Please feel free to contact me at 406-266-9218 or mfranks@broadwatercountymt.gov if you have any questions.
