1941
“Social”
A birthday anniversary which date borders on the early camping time was observed this year by Matthew Earl Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed O. Brown in a real boyish manner. “Matt” was seven and with the omen of good luck invited eleven boys to come and play after school and partake of a tent party. The tent was the gift of his father and when refreshment time came the young campers welcomed two able assistants, Miss Charlotte Brown and Roxy Ward, who saw that they were served in royal style. The young westerners attending the party were Jay and Eddie Albright, Ted Kieckbusch, John Baldwin, Dick Bayles, Mike Gabisch, Tommy Cooley, John Graveley, Don McCarthy and Clifford Kruse.
Bruce Johnson, celebrated his fifth birthday anniversary last Saturday and those who were invited to share the important occasion were treated to an Easter party. The little guests going dressed in their best and carrying all sized packages bearing gifts for their young host. They were Patty Nash, Bobby Bayles, Marjorie Ward, Charlene Mahony, Phyllis Kieckbusch, Delores Schreiner, Karen Cheney, Tommy Cooley, Carol and Darrel Sutherland, Mary Lee Connors, Eleanor Olsen, Dicky Schreiner, Gene Hays. The prize for a contest game was won by Karen Cheney.
1958
“Elect Directors”
At the meeting of the Deep Creek Cemetery association last Thursday, S.L. (Pete) Cartwright, John Deadmond and George Flynn were elected to fill the vacancies left by Emma Murray, Mae Mongrain and W.G. Kirscher, who had just completed a very successful term of trusteeship.
Other trustees who carry over are Ernest Grimm, Morris Nydegger, Bill Duede and Myrtle Ross. The ladies of the association are planning a bake sale for April 19th to help buy cement to continue their worthwhile project of marking unmarked graves and to fix those with markers so they may be better cared for.
“Toston Briefs”
Mr. Frank Beyers, Beryl and Margie Davis were Butte callers Sunday.
Mr. and Mr. C.V. Flynn, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Flynn, Teddy and Johnny motored to Helena Sunday and had dinner with Miss Louise Flynn.
Bert Quinn, Gerald Berberet and Franklin Slifka attended a wildlife meeting in Three Forks Sunday. They represented the Toston Rod and Gun club.
Timmy Evans of Townsend spent a few days with Johnny Flynn.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Greaves were business callers in Great Falls.
1975
“Holling Gets 25 Year Pin”
Charles Holling, Townsend manager of the Montana Power Company was honored for 25 years of service with the company.
Holling, a native of Townsend, started with the company in 1950 as a groundman. He became a lineman in 1954 and was promoted to patrolman in 1955. He became town representative in 1967 and Townsend town manager in 1970.
Holling and wife, Eleanor, live at 319 North Cedar Street in Townsend with their two sons, Timothy and Sidney. S. Spencer is in the service.
“Winston News”
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Masolo, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Masolo and David floated to Townsend in that short-lived Chinook Easter morning and had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Marvin love.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Clark visited Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hahn Sunday evening.
Easter dinner guests at the Alfred Myles home were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Myles, Mrs. Tracy McGwin and Mrs. Sady Zimmerman.
Mrs. Allan Davies’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Gunderson, of Auburn, Washington shared our winter weather with the Davies for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Davies joined them for Easter Sunday dinner.
1997
“Around Town News”
Easter dinner guests of Ed and Blondie Kaminski were their daughter and her family, Felicia and Greg Wallace and Kimberly, and Edith Alex.
Chris and Lillian Arden were Easter dinner guests at the home of their son and his family, Douglas and Penny Arden, Alan, Austin and Cody.
Pearl Barraugh and Hank and Mary Walker spent Saturday and Sunday in Helena the home of Bill and Karen Barraugh and Brenda. Joining them for Easter were Kristen and B.J. Cozzi of Helena. Sunday Ronald and Judy Barraugh of Helena visited Pearl.
Monday Flecia Head, Doreen Sautter, Pat Plattenberg, Jeff Stoffer, Connie Shindoll, Ruth Layton and Tom Shindoll held a Centennial Committee meeting at the Creamery.
“Winston No. 2 Earns Trip to Las Vegas”
The Winston Bar No. 2 team, which played in the Valley National 8-Ball Pool C League this winter, earned a trip to Las Vegas after a top finish at the state tournament.
Captained by Dave Primo of Winston, the team included men’s tournament MVP Leon Long, along with Brandon Nutter, John Nutter, Lester Stidham, Marty Miller and John Martin. The Winston Bar No. 1 team – which placed first in the C League standings – included women’s tournament MVP Brenda Ball of Townsend, Captain Dale Smith, along with Frank Hill, Mark Zipperian, Rick Hill, Bob Scott, Benny Johnson and Warren Fisher.
