Broadwater County’s trivia lovers had a great time last Thursday night fielding questions about Star Wars movies, banned books, movie car chases and rock ballads.

Broadwater Education Foundation (BEF), a grant-driven organization, sponsored the fundraiser at the Fairgrounds 4-H building. Eighteen tables of beverage-motivated players competed against each other to make an exciting night for everyone. Around 140 players attended. Each table chose a catchy name. The winning team was Irish Wristwatch. Second was an all men’s team, Cobra Kai, and third place winners were Sherlock Homes.

According to Secretary Jennifer Beatty, the group raised around $2,500 for awarding grants to Townsend School teachers for their classroom needs in the 2025-2026 grant cycle. Awarded grants were for Allie Lampman’s Book to Film Class and Denise Bakkum’s musical theater class to attend the play Wicked. Other grants were for reading and math games and to purchase novels for middle school students. “We intend to continue to award grants twice per year, typically with 6 awards up to $250 each per grant cycle,” Beatty said.

BEF also grants awards for special funds earmarked for the Mike Ferrat Memorial Fund for music and arts and the Tom Arnsmeyer Memorial Fund for math.

BEF board members who work to award various grant applications from teachers are Jackie Smith, president; Judy Gillespie, president-elect; Janell Robischon, secretary and at-large board members Lisa Larson and Terey Artz. They would like to thank all who attended Trivia night.
