In preparation for the District Basketball tournament, the Student Council put on a dress-up week. With themes like Soccer Moms vs BBQ Dads, Rhyme Without Reason, Dress as Your Type, and finally Blue and White day, the students were excited to dress up. On Thursday, the club encouraged participation. Two individuals who were wearing the most blue and white each won a T-shirt. The winners were Cheyenne Douglas and Tristan Owensby. After a week of dressing up, the students went to Manhattan Christian to cheer on their basketball teams. Our basketball teams, both girls and boys, played hard all weekend.

The girls had their first game Wednesday night and beat the Whitehall Trojans. After this victory, they played against the Jefferson Panthers on Friday. This game was a tough battle and they came up just short. The next game they played against the Three Forks Wolves on Saturday. This game unfortunately ended their season.

Throughout their regular games, they were led by the seniors Abby Wickens and Cassidy Flynn. They both were phenomenal in leading the rest of the team and helping them improve their shots. Abby ended her season by saying, “District was a good time to spend with my team. Even when we weren’t playing, we were cheering on the boys. The games were tough, but very upbeat with the amount of people who traveled to support them. Even though it didn’t end how we had hoped, I wouldn’t have wanted to do it with any other group of girls.”

The boys also had a busy weekend. They played against the Lone Peak Bighorns on Thursday. They played again on Saturday against the Jefferson Panthers. This wrapped up their season. It also ended the season for four seniors - Deegan Mattson, Sawyer Horne, Grady Erickson, and Ryedan Reed.

Ryedan, known as THE player, devotes every second he can to improving his shot and being the best player he can be. He's been shooting hoops as long as he can remember, and it shows. He has been one of the key components to this team. One of his favorite memories throughout this year was the bus rides and the conversations he had with his teammates on them. He said, “My word of advice for next year's team, specifically seniors, is to enjoy it because it goes by quickly. You put the work in, in the off-season, to perform during the season. So ultimately, you must work hard all the time to reach your goal. I appreciated one last season with my teammates and the family bonds we created along the way.”

What a way to end the season, we couldn’t be prouder of how hard they all fought throughout this year and look forward to what the teams are capable of next year.
