Farmers and Ranchers Gather at Annual Ag Appreciation Dinner

MT43 News Staff Reporter

Broadwater County’s farmers and ranchers are the largest economic group in the county so when they gather at their annual Ag Appreciation Day Dinner, they make a statement. Nearly 400 people attended the gala at Watson’s Event Center south of town Saturday night.

Johnny and the Wing Nuts band played their homegrown sounds to liven the group. Band members Phil Moles, John Larsen, Laura Stevenson and Sam Goode enjoyed each other as much as they enjoyed entertaining during the evening.

Gayle Watson and her excellent crew, the Future Farmers of America club and Townsend 4-H club members, served up a full prime rib dinner while Conservation District President Dallas Diehl acted as Master of Ceremonies. He pointed out funds raised by group through the dinner go to help FFA kids and help finance the Ted Flynn Memorial Scholarship fund.

Broadwater Conservation District Coordinator Denise Donnelly introduced keynote speaker Elaine Froese. Farm Family Coach Froese, from Boissevain, Manitoba Canada, spoke on how good farm and ranch culture beats strategy. Froese and her husband and son run a large grain farm near there. She advised farmers and ranchers whose families are in transition to contact their MSU Extension Office Marcia Goetting about planning estate changes.

Silent and Live Auction items include an all-girl branding crew, landscape and work crews provided by members of the FFA club.

The event was hosted by the Conservation District and sponsored by local businesses.
