1941 “Personal News” Elmer Kenney who had been employed for three weeks in the Boulder vicinity in the employ of the Cooley Gravel Company is back in Townsend reporting the work there has been completed.

A quilting bee was held Monday in conjunction with the regular meeting of the St. John’s guild at the home of Mrs. T.M. Cheney.

Mrs. Katherine Huth received the announcement this week of the promotion of her grandson, Ernest Juhl, who is now 1st class electrician in the United States Navy. This is the sixth year for young Juhl during which he has made steady progress. He is a member of the crew on the SS Colorado stationed at Pearl Harbor.

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kenney and family are planning to move into the Gilham house on Pine Street. The property now being cared for by the Masonic Home Board in Helena, has been recently renovated and a new furnace installed.

Mrs. R.R. Kimpton and Miss Althea Hale spent the night, Monday, with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ward and early Tuesday morning left by car for Spokane where they will visit and on to Walla Walla, Washington, Portland and eventually to Los Angeles to visit their father, W.M. Hale and other relatives.

1958 “Something New in DeMolay”

The William W. Harvey Chapter, Order of DeMolay is to have its first DeMolay Sweetheart dance Friday night, March 14, and plan for it to be an annual affair hereafter. Dancing will be from 9:00 until 12:30 with the pinning of the DeMolay Sweetheart at 11:30. This dance will be semi-formal, in the Masonic Temple, with refreshments being served. Everyone is invited and boys may ask girls; girls may ask boys. The four candidates for Sweetheart are: Miss Barbara Wallace, Mardee McElwee, Carolyn Ferrat and Charlene Adams.

“Choral Group to Appear on TW Wednesday” The Broadwater County High School senior choral group is to appear over Butte KSLF-TV next Wednesday, March 12, at 4:15 p.m. Mrs. James Ragen, director, states that the choral group which consists of Gail Dove, Karen Ann Olsen, Carolyn Ferrat, Doris Hagbom, Doreen Davies, Linda Graveley, Steve Ralls, Ronnie Barraugh, Alfred Myles, Dave Doig, Larry Jones and Dick Neifert, all of whom are seniors, will sing “Begin the Beguine” and “Dry Bones”.

Miss Jerry Haas will present a coronet solo on the same Town and Country Show. Her selection is “Carnival of Venice”.

“Local News” Glen Black, student at Montana State College, spent the weekend in Townsend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Black.

The Ben Jones family has moved from the Houston property in Townsend to a residential property on the Perry Stanfill ranch northeast of town.

Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Horne and two children of Helena visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Sorenson over the weekend.

“Lake Townsend Now Open to Set Line Fishing”

Lake Townsend in Broadwater and Lewis and Clark counties will be open March 1 to March 31 to set line fishing, the Montana Fish and Game Commission has authorized. Fishermen are asked to note that the 1957-58 regulations provide that “no more than six lines with no more than six hooks per line is allowed per person”.

1975 “Townsend News” Committees and chairmen have been named for the county-wide 100 Year Anniversary celebration of the founding of the Canton Church. Now situated on a hillside east of Townsend overlooking the Canyon Ferry Reservoir. The announcement of the celebration of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church was released Sunday by the Rev. S.C. Beausoleil, pastor of Holy Cross Church, Townsend.

Committee Chairmen which have been appointed by Parish Council of Holy Cross are: Program, Bonnie Olsen and JoAnn Marks; Banquet, Catherine Olsen, chairman, assisted by Evelyn Richardson, Mary Nichols, Midge Bucy, Grace Berberet and Betty Koehnke; Social Hour, Bill Kearns, assisted by Gay Ann Masolo, Terry Carmody, Judy Slifka, Don Lewis and Elaine Graveley; History, Edna Gaab, Mildred Neild, Alma Marks and Grace Hollaway; Building, Fred Meyer, chairman, assisted by Phil Whaley, Don Marks, Lester Field, Franklin Slifka and Monte Schnur; Invitations, Helen Hensley, Fern Kirley; Liturgy Bill Berberet, Carol Plymale, Terry Love and Kevin Walker; Publicity, Mary Alice Upton, chairman, assisted by Laurie McCarthy and Roberta Johnson.

Date of the celebration has not yet been solidified says Father Beausoleil. It will be announced immediately upon the decision.

1997 “Around Town News” Grace and Bill Berberet were in Dillon on Friday to attend the annual Vigilante Electric Cooperative meeting.

Helen Burmaster and Ed and Irene Burtch were business callers in Helena on Tuesday.

Frances Etzwiler returned home on Wednesday following a vacation in Seattle, Wash. and a Caribbean cruise. She flew from Seattle to Tampa, Fla., and began her cruise from Tampa, with ports of call in the Cayman Islands, Guatemala and Mexico.

Franklin and Judy Slifka traveled to Butte on Saturday to visit Jim and Lorna Flynn.

Thursday, Carol and L.H. Somers of Port Townsend, Wash. arrived to visit her mother, Bernice Cartwright. Thursday through Sunday, they visited in Townsend. Then the couple left for Yellowstone Park and Billings, where they will visit Carol’s aunt, Helena Daniels.

Saturday, Carla, Spackman, Amy and Moel of Havre, arrived to visit her mother, Lillian Fisher.
