Despite snow, temperatures below freezing, and frosty wind chills, workers from Belgrade’s CK May continued efforts to replace valves for Townsend’s water system at the intersection of Broadway and Spruce.
Traffic and parking was restricted on the 200 and 300 blocks of Broadway for several days. Local businesses also saw intermittent water shut-offs needed to accommodate the work.
The contractors will continue their work, which will also include replacing fire hydrants throughout the next several months, so long as daytime highs exceed 10F.
The construction is just the first step in a multi-year project to replace and upgrade Townsend’s water system and will include the installation of a 1 million gallon water tank east of Townsend near the fair and rodeo grounds.
