Ice Rink Plans Melt for Winter 2025

Citizen-led plans to install an ice rink in Holloway Park this winter came to an end in late January due to a lack of manpower and equipment.
Hannah Rauser, who had received the city’s permission to install the rink in the park on behalf of a group of citizens, explained that the effort for full set up the rink posed a greater logistical challenge than the group was aware of until the set-up had begun. Work done to install the rink was removed over the weekend of Feb. 1.
Rauser noted that the effort was not led by the City of Townsend. Instead, those involved had merely asked the city’s permission to place the rink in the park.
While there likely will not be a rink this winter, the end of the group’s efforts for this year does not preclude the possibility of a temporary installation in future years.
