New Year's Eve was a great night for Queen City Swing Band to heat up Townsend with big band music from Benny Goodman to the Beatles. Couples gathered at the Lodge to enjoy a sumptuous smorgasbord with friends and new acquaintances.
Queen City Swing Band has played in Townsend several times since 2023. The eleven-piece band featuring trombones, trumpets, saxophones, keyboards and drums is a special treat for people who enjoy big band sounds.
The band is a group of Helena musicians who gather just to play music for their own enjoyment. They all have day jobs or are retired. According to co-manager Heather Bell, the band began as Helena Speakeasy then became Queen City Swing later as they played regularly at the Eagles and the Moose Club in Helena. Now they play at dances in Butte, Bozeman and St. Timothy’s Summer Music Festival.
Broadwater Community Theater sponsored the dance. Destani Spencer and Vivian Boaz, Broadwater Community Theater board members prepared appetizers.
