A New Year, Keeping Humor Alive!

Think about the folks who think they are above it all. Why you ask? Ah, thereupon lies a tale: Years ago, when I had to spend some time in a big city, I remember walking around one evening. I passed a “Hoity Toity”, kind of upper-class restaurant. I didn’t care because I wasn’t hungry then, but something made me look in the window.

Sometimes even God says, “Look, you‘ve got to see this".

Keeping out of sight of the big windows, I began to watch when customers would enter and “attempt” to order a meal. I saw several receptionists/maître ds, standing around looking with disdain at any customers but not moving to help them. They merely stood there “stylishly” now and then turning to look around them with little interest in helping customers. They did remain “stylish” while doing nothing! There were a couple wait-people all in white, with their towel over their arm, with their tray and notepad. Looking frightened, that they might actually have to speak to a patron.

I never saw ANY of the “stylish” maître ds even look at the wait people to direct them to help any customers. The wait people while not as “stylish” as the reception folks, were clean and well “quaffed” hair they all still had this look of terror when some patron would actually try to get their attention, or God forbid talk to them! You have all heard about, or seen a deer in the headlights, that is exactly the look in their eyes.

It was FEAR! I could almost hear them thinking, “I spend my days here you actually expect me to WORK too?” There are times in our lives when we can see someone SCREAM, with their eyes. This was one of them, at one time I saw a “stylish” receptionist look toward a waitress, who then FLED behind a kitchen door with her towel flying behind her!

I don’t know how a place like this stays in business, but if for nothing more than sheer entertainment this was comedy gold! Any producer who actually cares about making people laugh would have a field day making this a comedy sitcom.

I had to walk away as I was starting to giggle insanely and didn’t want to get picked up by the police. I never visited that city again, but I envision all those “stylish” people still standing there because they were even afraid to be the first ones to clock out at the end of their shift. You just CAN’T make these things up, everyday life can be funnier than any comedy.

If you are ever in a fairly affluent city, look around and find such a place. You can even enter and scare the employees just by asking for a menu!

Find humor in life anywhere you can.
