The Broadwater High School Wrestling team starts their season with a meet held in Cascade. With a total of fourteen bulldog wrestlers, Captains Eric Humphreys, Parker Hunt, Gavin Schmele, and Hunter Borror have just a little more responsibility. The captains lead the team to wrestle each other before each match to prepare for success. Some of the more experienced wrestlers are seen showing the newbies different moves and ways to pin their opponents. They practice their gymnastic skills by doing cartwheels, somersaults, and dive rolls. They do these things to warm up their bodies and increase their agility.

Eric Humphreys has had a great start to his season. In Cascade, he was able to be recognized as the Montana High School Association Athlete of the Week. Humphreys was able to place first in the 165-pound weight class, and in the Whitehall Duals was able to perform phenomenally as well. His biggest support came from his four coaches, Harry Hall, Mike Schnittgen, John O’Dell, and head coach Eli Hohn. The coaches do everything they can for their team and give advice on just about anything. Before each match Eric jumps around and stays warm, talking with different coaches and getting in the zone. Watching Eric wrestle you can see and hear all of his coaches, teammates, and family yelling and encouraging him on. Eli Hohn is one of Eric's biggest supporters, “I see Hohn a lot. I’m in two of his classes and we talk a lot about how to perform better as a team. Personally, he just helps me get better by giving me feedback.”

Just two meets in, and our team is already taking medals home. Eric Humphreys, Parker Hunt, Nick Humphreys and Gabby Rico were all able to place in the first meet of their season. This sets the tone for the rest of the season and we are excited to see where this start leads them. Preparing for the CMR Holiday Invite is next. Parker Hunt, whose favorite takedown is the ‘Fireman's Carry’, has been working hard to earn his place as captain. His favorite part of wrestling is, “that it's an individual sport. My team supports me but I don’t have to rely on them to place. My brother is a big help for me and has been there throughout my wrestling career.”

Although this was just the start of their season, we expect great things from our wrestling team and are looking forward to seeing them progress through their season.
