The Montana Wood Products Association Foundation (MWPA) is pleased to announce that Cassidy Johnson and Alden Whitney are our Spring 2025 Scholarship Winners.

Meet Cassidy Johnson

Meet Cassidy Johnson one of our 2025 Spring Semester MWPA Foundation Forest Management Scholarship recipients. This is Cassidy's second MWPA Foundation scholarship, recognized as an outstanding star in her continued academic endeavors.

About Cassidy:

Cassidy was the MWPA Foundation's first Forest Management Scholarship recipient in 2023. As an outstanding star in her academic endeavors, the Foundation has awarded her a 2nd scholarship for the 2025 spring semester.

Cassidy's family has a rich history in lumber, forest conservation, and forestry. She is proud to follow in the footsteps of her great-grandfather, who graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in forestry. After graduation, he worked throughout the West and eventually ran his own logging business. Her grandmother dedicated her career to the Forest Service in range management until her retirement and her grandfather worked at a wood mill and various logging sites.

She grew up surrounded by timber, lumber, and forest management. She developed a deep curiosity about how to care for forests and manage timber products. These industries create numerous jobs for communities near forests, including her father’s position at Marks Miller Post and Pole in Clancy, MT as a millwright.

Cassidy is eager to learn more about the decision-making processes before a timber sale and explore how to manage forests to protect habitats and microbiomes while providing essential products for people. The more she learns about forest management and production, the more passionate she becomes about her future in the forestry and timber industry.

The MWPA Foundation wishes Cassidy the best of luck in her schooling and school experiences! We know she will do well. Part of the scholarship includes a $500.00 bonus upon graduation and six months of active employment in Montana's forest products industry.

The Foundation will be seeking fall 2025 applications later in the spring. Please contact us if you know of an exceptional candidate who could use support to achieve their education and career goals.
