Broadwater Community Theater Dinner and Play Well Attended

The tenants of a good play are conflict, comedy and a catchy ending. Broadwater Community Theater President LaRinda Spencer hit all the high spots in her Crazy Christmas skit performed at Saturday night’s annual Christmas Dinner Theater.

Held at the Lodge to a full house, Characters DJ (Denise Johnson of Winston) and the Sheriff (JB Howick) made it clear from the onset they had not much love for each other. She was stuck covering Christmas Eve at KMAS radio station. The Sheriff pulled the short straw to cover the evening at his office. She hates Christmas and takes it out on Sheriff who loves Christmas. She plays crazy music and he chides her for being so negative.

Just then a person (Amanda Hazlett) who might be Santa Claus, appears outside in the cold. Upon entering Sheriff’s office it is obvious she is about to have a baby. Sparks really begin to fly when the Sheriff has no experience in birthing babies. Neither does DJ. Never mind. The baby comes anyway without incident. Suddenly, a previously pregnant person disappears into the night, leaving a note saying she is giving up the baby for adoption. Sheriff and his wife Penny Lou have never had children. Sheriff and Penny Lou accept the baby as their own. The end.

So typical of talented and dedicated actors, support crew, chefs and cleanup crew, the fundraiser for Broadwater Community Theater came off without a hitch. The pork loin dinner prepared by Vivian Boaz and served by STOKE students was enjoyed by everyone. Elfrado (Pat Plantenberg) moved the evening along with a raffle and a running commentary on theater events throughout the year. The dinner theater is the beginning of BCT’s fundraising activities for 2025.

BCT coming events include Queen City Swing Band from Helena who will perform New Year’s Eve in the auditorium.
