Now is a Good Time for Fire Safety Measures
MT43 News Staff Reporter
It is cold outside. Broadwater County residents would rather not think about the fire season coming up in 2025. Now is a good time to prepare for a possible fire.
Resident Ron Salladay had been forewarned by a forest service worker that if a fire ever roared through his property on River Road, his shop and house would be completely destroyed. “So I hired some help and we cut down most of the juniper trees near the shop. If we ever had a fire, there would only be a few trimmed junipers left,” he explained.
Rural Fire Department Chief Ed Shindoll was among those burning the slash left from cutting out trees near the shop. His crews from Townsend, Duck Creek and Radersburg Fire Departments burned slash last week at the request of Salladay. He complimented Salladay for being proactive in preparing for a possible fire.
Shindoll encouraged property owners to assess their property’s chances for fire. For questions about preparing property for fire mitigation work, please contact him at (406) 949-5535.
