Thanksgiving Week
Try as we might to slow it down, time keeps marching on! Thus, we find ourselves here in the 2024 Holiday season. Halloween is past and Autumn is definitely in full swing, as if you couldn’t tell with the massive leaf fall and any puddles with a crust of ice on them.
'Tis a time of family and making plans to gather together. Yes, prepare for future cooler weather but also look at how far we need to go for a family gathering. How often do you get together with the “WHOLE” family? Not just brothers and sisters, but in-laws as well as a few outlaws. Those strange not so easy to get along with, family members the ones that are very seldom referred to in letters and e-mails.
Many of our family members get lost along the way; I’m not talking about the ones who God has called home. Just the people who have never really taken part in the seasonal gatherings. This season try to make contact with folks you don’t often remember, unless it’s an old story about the early days of your family. You know the ones who everybody asks about while looking through the old dusty photo album. (People still have them, right?)
Turkey does NOT have to be consumed ONLY on holidays. We pick one up now and then as something different to have for dinners. And then have it in just about EVERY meal for weeks. Still, it’s good eats. There is something incredibly special about sharing a “festive” holiday table, with the whole family clan. You get to share all the old stories and reminisce about times long past. Never lose sight of those times, THEY are the times and situations that shaped who you are!
DO NOT start putting Christmas decorations up until AFTER Thanksgiving! I saw a cartoon the other day with a Turkey tripping Santa in the snow, saying, "Wait your turn, Fatboy, this is MY season”. Nice. Remember the meal is nice, but the family is much more important! So, gather together (be aware of the weather for traveling) and enjoy each other’s company.
Happiest Thanksgiving, to one and all. Stay safe and remember the Christmas Stroll is coming SOON!
