Create Memories by Bringing Home a Tree for the Holidays!

It is the most wonderful time of the year on the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest! Once again, our Forest Service offices and districts are selling Christmas/holiday tree permits for the season.

“Have fun with your family or friends picking out a tree and feel good about helping remove small trees from the forest,” said Forest Supervisor Emily Platt.

How to purchase a permit:

ONLINE: Visit https://www.recreation.gov and search “Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest Christmas Tree Permit”.

IN-PERSON: Visit: https://www.fs.usda.gov/contactus/hlcnf/about-forest/contactus to find a list of our Forest Service offices to buy one in person.

Checklist before you head out:

Hand saw

Measuring tape (to ensure your tree is under 12 ft.)

Chains/traction for vehicle

Map

Extra food/water

Blanket (to wrap the tree in)

Permit(s)
