County Administrative Officer Bill Jarocki updated Broadwater County Commissioners on the county’s fiscal performance for the first three months of Fiscal Year 2024-25 at their regular Oct. 30 meeting. The county established a new budgeting process for the current year.

“The good news is we’re about 3.678 percent shy of what we expected for 25 percent expenditures,” Jarocki said. “If this were to last for the whole year, we’d end up with $364,000 less spent. Which would be good because that would go against the $83,000 we’re taking out of the cash balance.”

The county’s budget for the current year is approximately $15 million. About $2.5 million of that total, 17 percent, comes from floating property tax mill levies, which are established by the commission under state guidelines.

“Our county does very well with the very small amount of property taxes we raise for ourselves,” Jarocki said. “The property tax component of this is very light.”

Jarocki and individual commissioners have met with the heads of the county’s 25 departments about budget performance. “The performance to date is great, Jarocki said.
