Thanksgiving- A Time of Togetherness

It’s November, and Thanksgiving week is just around the corner, a time that holds a special place in my heart as my favorite holiday to host.

It’s a season of connection, storytelling, and simply being together—free from the pressures often accompanying other gatherings.

I can already feel the nostalgic warmth of family traditions, from the savory aroma of turkey to the sweet scent of desserts baking in the oven—even that beloved Costco pumpkin pie!

As I envision our granddaughters joyfully running through the house, their laughter filling every corner, I’m reminded of the deep joy that comes from these cherished moments.

However, it’s essential to acknowledge that this season can bring challenges for some, especially as families come together.

For many, the holidays can highlight past hurts—unresolved wounds, separations, or even grief. Memories of harsh words or family dysfunction can overshadow the joy we strive to cultivate.

It’s essential to recognize this reality and approach our gatherings with sensitivity.

During this time, it’s natural to find specific family dynamics challenging. Yet, how we choose to focus our thoughts can profoundly impact our relationships. Instead of dwelling on flaws, let’s strive to see the hearts of our loved ones—hearts that, like ours, long for affirmation, worth, and unconditional love.

Let’s embrace the courage to release bitterness, burdens, disappointments, and irritations. This season, let us focus on healing, compassion, and kindness. It’s not always easy, but the effort to love others as we are loved is a beautiful journey.

Philippians 4:8 (TPT) encourages us: “Keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every wondrous work of God, praising him always.” In this spirit, let us consciously reject negative, resentful thoughts and instead cultivate a mindset of gratitude and grace.

As you gather around the table, seek and extend forgiveness and assume the best in one another. What do you see when you look at others? Let’s shine a light on the goodness within our families and ourselves.

My hope and prayer for you this Thanksgiving is that you will embrace the beauty of the season by focusing on the positive and letting go of the past. After all, “Dwelling on your problems doesn’t fix them; it just makes you an expert at them.” ~ Tommy Newberry.

This Thanksgiving, let us consciously create a space of warmth and understanding. Reach out to a family member, share a story that brings joy, or simply offer a smile. Together, let’s choose to uplift one another, focusing on love and gratitude.

Remember to take a moment to reflect on what you’re thankful for—both in yourself and in those around you. Let’s carry this spirit of compassion beyond the holiday, nurturing our relationships throughout the year.

Join me in embracing this beautiful season, which offers the opportunity to heal and celebrate the gift of family. May this beautiful season be filled with warmth, love, and the spirit of connection.
