The Montana state cross country championships took place Saturday at the University of Montana golf course in Missoula. More than 1100 runners (614 men and 527 women) representing 128 schools from all classes descended on the course with Class B having the largest fields of the day from 41 schools.
The Class B Ladies’ race was the first competition of the busy day with 185 runners taking to the course. Sophomore Kyla Meissner powered through to finish in 2nd place behind Plains’ Marina Tulloch. Marina missed the all-time Class B state record by 3 seconds, while Kyla’s time of 19:23.3 lands as the 6th fastest time recorded at the state meet in the Class B competition. She is right behind former Bulldog phenom Emma Stolte who logged a 19:18.91 in her state championship run her senior year 2021. Freshman Elaine MacDonald ran her personal best time of 20:14 to place 14th and secure all-state honors. Kaelyn Sangray (22:32) capped off her senior year finishing 50th, while sophomore Arabella McDaniel tied her PR of 23:05 to place 66th. Fellow sophomore Shalyn Sentinella improved once again with her first sub-25 time of 24:53 (PR) to end in 117th. Junior Logan Barkhurst (26:35 PR) and senior Grace Kroeger (27:40 SR) rounded out the team finishing 150th and 167th, respectively. The Lady Bulldogs finished in 9th place out of 21 scoring teams with 249 points.
The Bulldog men’s team finished as a team in 12th place with 342 points among the 27 Class B teams having enough qualifying runners to tally a team score. First to cross the line for the men was senio,r Nolan Flynn, who ran a time of 16:55 to secure all-state honors by placing 14th in a field of 217 runners. Junior Gavin Green (18:17) finished in 45th place, while senior Kaden Bruins (18:57) ended in 69th. Sophomore Rylan Hoveland ran his personal best time of 19:23 to place 83rd, and fellow sophomore Luke Tullos (20:19) landed in 131st. Juniors Patrick Gossard (21:11) and Keaton Cavasos (21:32 PR) completed the team in 166th and 174th. Keaton managed to cut 33 seconds off his previous PR on a demanding course.

Southwest Montana represented well as a region with Three Fork’s Cass Violett winning an individual championship in Men’s Class B. Manhattan accomplished the Tiger sweep by winning both the Men's and Women's Class B team titles! Additionally, Jefferson placed third for the Ladies in Class B and Manhattan Christian brought home 3rd place trophies in both the Men's and Women's for Class C.
