"Local News"

R. M. O'Hearn of Toston spent Saturday night among his many friends in that place. Dick has a list of friends, among them, not a few who interrogate him as to what he will do for our county roads if elected. In view of his chronic advocacy of improved road conditions, such inquiries were not hard for him to relieve.

It will please the ladies to know that all four Montana political conventions proposed submitting an equal suffrage amendment to popular vote also, that our local candidates, J.D. Doggett and Peter Riley, have signed statements favoring the same.

“Dam Dedication Was Big Day for Broadwater Co."

A loyal assemblage of approximately 2000 people facing chill in a late fall rain, gathered at the Broadwater-Missouri dam last Sunday afternoon to witness the official dedication of the new project, which ceremony was performed by Governor Roy E. Ayers.

The Governor stood in a drizzling rain on the by-pass over the head gates of the great canal surrounded by both sides of the ditch by visitors and homeguards and with a smile lighting his face he dedicated the new $900,000 diversion dam to posterity as a memorial to those men who over a period of 50 years had worked for the feat.

"High School Team Declared District Football Champs"

The Broadwater County High School football team have the distinction of having been awarded the district championship. This announcement was made last week by Coach Paul Johnson after he had received the official notification from State Official Walter Scott of the Butte School of Mines.

The championship is awarded over the greatest victories in the Four Rivers district. Coach Johnson said he was going to let the championship rest where it was and not try for further honors as it ran into the basketball season and he didn't choose to put his men into the football fields so late in the fall.

In Butte Monday the team played the high school freshmen. They made the first two touchdowns but lost when their opponents took a spurt in the last period of the game to run up a score of 20 against their 13.

Those who made the trip on the team from here were Hooks, Kelly, Riley, Ness, W. Riley, Ballard, G. Williams, Grey, Brisbin, O'Hearn and Guffey. They were accompanied by their coach and several townspeople.

"Local Forest Ranger Transferring to Prescott, Ariz.; Will Report Nov. 18"

John Antonich, ranger on the Townsend District of the Helena National Forest the past six years, received notice this past week of his transfer to the Prescott National Forest, with headquarters at Prescott, Ariz.

The transfer, effective Monday, Nov. 18, simply involves the trading of locations between two rangers. Coming to Townsend from Prescott will be Theodore Ingersoll.

Antonich, who plans to leave Townsend Sunday, Nov. 10, has sold his home here to John Ryan. Their son, Dale, who is attending Northern Montana College at Havre, will remain there until the end of the school year. Their daughter, Tina, will accompany them to Arizona. Mr. and Mrs. Anotnich also have a married daughter, Pamela, who lives in Kalispell.

The community regrets very much to lose Mr. and Mrs. Antonich and family who have made many friends during their stay here, but wish them much success in their new home.
