"Dr. Gilham Boosts Broadwater County”

Dr. Gilham was a visitor in Helena the first of the week, and he evidently got tangled up with a newspaper reporter. Anyway, the Helena Independent has the following to say of what the doctor said, which is good boosting for one of the best towns and one of the best counties in the state.

“Dr. G.W. Gilham, president of the First National Bank of Townsend, was in the city yesterday. Dr. Gilham has been a resident of Broadwater County for many years and knows as much about that section as anybody. He believes Broadwater County is one of the best in the state, and says the fact that all of the people are prosperous is sufficient to show that what he says of the county as one of the very best, is true.

“Townsend”, Dr. Gilham says, “is improving wonderfully. It is one of the prettiest little towns in the state, it is supplied with all modern improvements, such as an electric lighting system, public telephone, water works, etc. Lately, concrete sidewalks have been laid and other improvements made that make Townsend an ideal place to live in. Many new people have come into the town”, according to Mr. Gilham, possessing a progressive spirit and this spirit has diffused itself in others to the extent that all the population is striving to improve the town in every way possible.

Dr. Gilham also speaks favorably of the mining possibilities of Broadwater County. He says that the camp of Radersburg is one of the best gold mining districts in the state and that it is producing a large amount of shipping ore. The resources of Broadwater County compare favorably with any other county in the state. There is a large area of farming land, hay land, grazing land, plenty of water, enabling the settlers to diversify their interests as to be sure of remunerative returns every year.

“Senior Hop to be Saturday Night”

The Senior Hop of Broadwater County High School will have their night when dance lovers will assemble at the spacious high school gym for the annual formal event.

The class has given much thought to the decorations for the dance which will be carried out in nautical effects. The grand march will commence promptly at 10:30 and will be led by the four class officers, Lawrence Simons, Glenn Perry, Carol Ness and Alice D’Arcy. Principal W.L. Emmert is the class sponsor.

Heinie Mockel’s orchestra are slated to play for the big affair and judging from plans and costumes, the ball will be an outstanding social feature of the season.
