Bulldogs Thump Cougars on Senior Night

On the evening of Friday, October 11th, the Bulldogs played the Columbus Cougars at Fandrich Field for the last home game of the regular season. The Bulldogs came into the game 2-3 and the Cougars came in with a record of 3-2. Before the game, the seniors were recognized. This year’s squad has 6 senior players on the team and 2 senior managers. The players recognized were Hunter Borror, Sawyer Horne, Eric Humphreys, Deegan Mattson, Hunter McCartney and Cael Sell. The senior team managers are Anna Beatty and Madelyn Schritz.

The Bulldogs received the opening kickoff and got the scoring started early with a long Deegan Mattson touchdown run to get on the board at 7-0. The defense started strong and forced a fumble to give us the ball back. The Bulldog drive stalled out and ended with a long field goal attempt by Logan Johnson that landed just short. Cael Sell ended the next Columbus drive with a blocked punt and the offense continued rolling with a trick play touchdown pass by Deegan Mattson to Sawyer Horne to bring the score to 14-0. Deegan Mattson continued his strong game with an interception returned for a touchdown to give the Bulldogs a 21-0 lead in the second quarter. Colt Barnard added another interception with 2 minutes left in the first quarter. Marek Easter added a tough run for a touchdown to end the first quarter with a commanding Bulldog 28-0 lead.

The second quarter was a bit slower until Eric Humphreys had a huge blocked punt that Cael Sell recovered in the end zone for a touchdown. After another Logan Johnson extra point the score was 35-0 Bulldogs. The defense continued its dominance throughout the quarter and took a 35-0 lead into halftime

.

The third was low scoring with the Bulldog defense continuing its strong play and holding Columbus to zero points. The Bulldogs added another rushing touchdown by Marek Easter to make the score 42-0 at the end of the third quarter.

The defense stayed strong in the fourth quarter and could smell the shutout coming. Deegan Mattson had an interception to deny Columbus from scoring yet again and Logan Johnson continued his great season with a field goal to make the final score 45-0. This was a great game for the Townsend Bulldogs to bring their overall record to 3-3 and keep their playoff hopes alive. Next week they take on the Sweet Grass Herders in Big Timber and hope to continue their strong play. GO DAWGS!!
