US Senator Jon Tester Stumps in Townsend

US Senator Jon Tester and his political campaign crew stopped in Townsend briefly last Thursday to encourage voters to look at his 12 years in the Senate as a testament to why they should vote for him in the November 5 election.
Tester, who is running against newcomer Tim Sheehy, a veteran and businessman from Bozeman, admitted he had a tough competitor. He asked the nearly 40 persons who attended the meet and greet at Goose Bay Glass to talk to their friends, relatives and neighbors, “So we can sway enough voters to win this race,” he said.
After a short rundown of his personal history and his Congressional record, Tester opened the floor to questions. Chuck Smith questioned his stand on polls which show Tester losing. The Senator replied, “What will win is people talking to people.”
City Council member JB Howick asked if Tester’s office could help with funding for Townsend’s planned water system update. The senator directed Howick to “get ahold of my office”. Other questions included protections for obstetricians concerning abortion, restoration of railroad passenger service, global warming and veterans’ care in Montana. Several bystanders thanked Tester for his long- standing service to veterans including Vicki Sullivan whose husband served four tours on naval ships in the Vietnam War. Her husband has suffered cancer in his later years. She pointed out her husband received phenomenal care at veterans’ hospitals. “Your office was the only office that we reached out to who helped.”
