Middle school runners compete at different distances each week depending on the course with two miles being their longest length race. The Townsend Bulldogs did that longer distance, not once but twice this past week.
The first was the hilly romp thru Clancy on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 1st.
Kathryn Six lead the Lady Bulldogs with a time of 16:07, which was 6th overall and 3rd place among 7th graders. The rest of the Lady Bulldogs finished as follows: Kensley Sangray (18:35) in 21st, Lydia Brakefield (18:45) in 22nd, Courtney Webber (20:43) in 31st, Madison Vogl (21:54) in 38th, Anna Busscher (24:13) in 44th, and Erilyn Strait (24:26) in 46th.
The boy’s team was led by Clayton Rice who finished 10th overall and 6th among 8th graders in a time of 14:37. Everett Kirksey (20:15) and Jayden Flynn (24:34) finished in 45th and 56th, respectively.
In what was a short turnaround, these runners joined their “bigs” a couple of days later the morning of Friday, October 4th in Three Forks, for another two-mile race. Amazingly, these tough kids almost universally improved on tired legs. Compare their times from one meet to the other to see their progress on what could be argued was a little longer than two miles.
Girls: 14th Kathryn Six (15:45), 23rd Courtney Webber (17:42), 30th Kensley Sangray (19:17), 35th Lydia Brakefield (19:24), 36th Madison Vogl (19:31), 43rd Anna Busscher (21:57) and 52nd Erilyn Strait (25:06).
Boys: 10th Clayton Rice (13:52), 28th Everett Kirksey (18:09) and 33rd Jayden Flynn (23:02).
The middle school hoofers next compete at the home meet on Thursday, October 17th. Come out to cheer on these hard-working kids.
