Fire Department Breakfast Ramps Up Fall Fest Activities

MT43 News Staff Reporter

Support your local fire department was the theme Saturday morning when fire department volunteers manned the grills to cook hotcakes and sausages. Larry Virnig, who belongs to the Duck Creek fire department was taking money. Virnig, who lives out near the Confederate Gulch turnoff, has been with the crew for 19 years. He usually does not help with the annual breakfast because he has a booth at Fall Fest with his Shows on the Road native American jewelry business, but did not have a booth this year. He explained why donating to the fire department is so important: “Our departments are funded in part by the county, but for extra equipment, we raise our own money. We don’t ask for extra from the taxpayers. We always stay in budget because people support us through donations. “

Virnig said this past year they had purchased a vehicle stabilizing unit, and a used “Jaws of Life” unit for rescuing car accident victims. The breakfast crew served 360 meals by midmorning, he said.
