Jesse Swenson, Candidate for Broadwater County Commissioner
MT43 News Staff Reporter
Background:
Jesse is a Montana-born person whose family homesteaded in the Dutton area. Growing up his family lived in Red Lodge before they moved to Townsend in 1995. He is a 2005 Broadwater High School graduate and has his associate’s degree in surveying from Flathead Community College in Kalispell. He has been active in the survey business of Schauber and Associates since 2016. He and his wife LaReissa have two children who are homeschooled. LaReissa is the owner of Saphire Behavioral Health, a counseling service. Jesse explains most of his survey work involves locating property boundaries. He does some family land transfers and a “handful” of subdivisions in Broadwater County.
Why should Broadwater County residents vote for you? Jesse explains he has no personal agenda as a candidate. Should he be elected, he would work full-time in the position, giving up his position as a surveyor. He says he has talked to people who feel their voices have not been heard at the County Commission. He wants to be there for community members. He wants the county to grow and prosper. He feels he does have experience and knowledge about subdivision laws. “There is a give and take on growth in our county. Montana State Code does have certain laws that must be followed regarding subdivisions. However, the county does have leeway with certain regulations such as forcing the landowner to begin completely over if major changes are made in his certificate of survey. This is an arbitrary regulation, which slows down growth in our county,” he said. Should he win the seat, and a subdivision come up before the commission from Schauber Survey, he would recuse himself from voting on the project.
