Background:

Darrel, age 65, is running for his second term. He was born in Helena. His family farmed on the Spoken Bench. He has one brother, Dean. He served in the US Navy for four years on active duty and two years with the National Guard. He graduated from Helena Vocational Technical College, with an associate’s degree in agricultural and industrial mechanics. He worked for two years in Teton County as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator. He served as the fleet manager for Lewis and Clark County. He began a new career in 2007 as a helicopter pilot for Columbia Helicopters in Oregon. He is married to Robin. They have three children and eleven grandchildren.

Why should Broadwater County residents vote for you? Darrel said he has experience with his last six years as county commission. He said in the past three years he and the commission have had a chance to make good connections with the Montana Department of Commerce and federal agencies. He gave examples including updating Broadwater County’s airport and working with the Western Federal Lands through a grant to finally pave Goose Bay Road. He has helped implement installing fiber optics into both the north the south ends of the county.

“Because of the experience I have gained over the last six years and because of my good life experience, I feel I can add to decisions important to our community and to try to maintain our rural heritage. I feel I can be a good Broadwater County representative testifying at the next legislative session on issues such as property taxes, water rights and subdivision regulations."
