FFA is in full swing, with competitions, fundraisers, and preparations for nationals. Being a full-year club, the participants never get a day off. Over the summer the officers took a retreat up to Gardiner to have team bonding and to go through their year agenda. On August 6 through the 8 the team spent every second together. They stayed in cabins, spent a lot of time together, swimming, and did a ton of work on their Plan of Activities (POA). Officers include President Amanda Pesicka, Vice President Spencer Braaten, Secretary Kaitlyn Noyes, Reporter Ashley Sanderson, Historian Jacey Brunette, and Sentinel Gavin Schmele.
All year is busy, however October is especially busy for this club. Just last week the club went to the Ruby Valley Invitational, Amanda Pesicka says, “We just went to the livestock judging competition. Our team did really well and got second in our district. Our team members all placed well and got second, and fourteenth, and two others placed in the top 30. I’m proud of them considering there were around 270 people and they all placed high. With that, we are going to state”.
Later in October, they have their trip to the Northern International Livestock Exposition (NILE) in Billings on the 13-15. Having their first Harvest of the month, which is having the participants in FFA teach the elementary students things about a certain crop that changes every month. At the end of October, the club has the opportunity to fly to Nashville and drive to Indianapolis to go to Nationals.
Currently, FFA is working hard, with sales practice nights and preparing for their competitions. Amanda Pesicka is on the vet science team and the agronomy team and has been working non-stop with her teams to get the best results while competing. Others in the club have horse judging, livestock judging, and the sales team. Preparing for their busy month of October, they also have a competition that is in mid-November.
Being President of this busy club is no easy task, but Amanda works hard to ensure that the FFA program in Townsend is flourishing. She is improving her leadership skills and trying to get the entire club under control to help them place well in their competitions. “Being in FFA has helped me improve my leadership skills. I get to learn how to work well with other people who have different ideas and different interests. I get to learn how leadership brings others ideas in and how to delegate work to expose people to new things that they wouldn’t have the opportunity to do otherwise.”
Our FFA club is doing great things and the Broadwater community can’t wait to see how this year goes for them.
