Cheyanne Douglas has Set Up a Book Exchange in Radersburg

Cheyanne Douglas lives in Radersburg, is a Freshman at the Broadwater County High School and is also the President of the Radersburg Rattlers 4-H Club. She is the daughter of Dannielle Douglas, and granddaughter of Sheree and Sam “PalPal” Beauchamp. She is working on a leadership project for the 4-H program to provide free books to the residents, especially the kids of Radersburg. The kids there don’t have much access to the library and bookstores. Because of that, she wanted to find a way to make books more accessible. She swaps out books and the books she provides are free for the users. Cheyanne does take book donations.
Just in the last few weeks since Cheyanne started the project, she has seen a ton of new books. Not only does she provide books for the younger readers, she also does it for the older people as well, who say that this is a great idea and love it. A lot of the books she distributes come from people helping her and donations. “Palpal” helped her build the Free Little Library box, which is located at the Radersburg schoolhouse. They are also planning on adding another box to go with the first one, to include suggestions for what people want to read, such as particular novels. The outside of the box is about a foot square. The small sign to the left of the box reads:
FREE LITTLE LIBRARY
Take a Book, Leave a Book, Love a Book, Keep a Book.
Cheyanne started reading when she was about three years old and has been a bookworm since then. She credits all the books she has read to where she is now. At school, she has a 4.0 average, which is quite an accomplishment in itself. Additionally, Cheyanne is one of the Cheerleaders at Broadwater High School.
She may go to MSU but her dream is to go to Texas A&M University because she wants to become a veterinarian, which has been her lifelong dream. Texas A&M has a very good Veterinarian Program. Right now, she is beginning her 7th year in 4-H, and she has worked with market steers, market goats, dairy goats, rabbits and poultry.
Cheyanne wrote: “I have had several animals on display at the Broadwater fair and the Lewis and Clark County fair. I have won many prizes mainly with dairy goats because they are my specialty. I have received the grand champion dairy goat overall for four years and have won reserve grand champion overall dairy goat for 2 years. I have won the grand champion dairy goat showman for three years and have won the reserve grand champion one year. I have won Grand Champion Rabbit Showman for two years and reserve Grand Champion Rabbit overall one year. I also received reserve grand champion round robin at this past year's fair which is where you show all the animals to find the best showman overall.”
The majority of her animals are out at her grandparent’s farm near Radersburg. When a veterinarian comes out to the farm, she is right there learning what needs to be done. Currently, she is in a program to check animals with the Veterinarian and learning how to do ultrasounds. There is no doubt that she will be a very good and successful veterinarian!
