The Belgrade XC Invitational on Friday, September 1st was the Bulldogs' second meet of the season and it was a tough one. The 5K course is a true cross-country course with two and a half loops around the trails of Gallatin County Regional Park including a steep hill the runners must traverse twice. The Junior Varsity and Varsity runners were on the course simultaneously with no cap on the number of runners, as host Belgrade chose to have a separate race for the incoming freshman.
The ladies were up first on a hot day with a late morning starting time, persevering with a team score placing them 7th out of 24 teams.
Sophomore Kyla Meissner came in 10th place with a time of 21:32, followed by freshman Elaine MacDonald in 21st in 22:02. Kaelyn Sangray (22:30) in 32nd improved her time at the same course last year by 43 seconds. Sophomores Arabella McDaniel (26:01) and Shalyn Sentinella (28:11) ran the tough course for the first time placing 100th and 126th respectively. Rounding out the female runners were Grace Kroeger (30:15) in 141st, improving her course record by more than two minutes, and Fiona Nelson (41:24) in 162rd.
The men were up next with senior Nolan Flynn leading the way in 23rd place with a time of 18:31. Rylan Hoveland (20:50, 2:08 faster than 2023) and Gavin Green (20:51) gave the crowd something to cheer about sprinting against each other to the line to finish in 79th and 80th. Luke Tullos (23:12, 5:05 faster than 2023) in 144th and Patrick Gossard (23:25) in 148th completed the Varsity score landing them as a team in 13th place. Rounding out the men’s runners were: Sam Flesch (23:44) 150th, Keaton Cavasos (23:55, 6:31 faster than 2023) 153rd, Alex Johnson (27:08) 177th and Ross MacDonald (27:31) 181st.
The Bulldogs will run next on Saturday, September 14th at the Bozeman XC Invite located at Bridger Creek Golf Course. Always a gorgeous venue with stiff competition from all over the region including 40 teams from all classes and Wyoming.
