One Size Does Not Fit All!

Everyone is of a certain size, I’m a short guy which is fine. However, when did “somebody” (that mysterious somebody) decide what was average or normal size for most all people? Granted people USED to be a lot shorter in the 1800s, look at any doorway in an old house and you will see that the doors are set up for folks about 5’ 4” even the windows were lower. I have known friends who lived in houses with front windows almost down to the floor. I’m not talking about Hobbits here, (although I think some of them live in the attic.)

Strange stuff people who design products for use in homes and especially in department stores are a sadistic lot, when you go into a store restroom the toilet paper is narrower than it has ever been. Not to mention single-ply. ANYONE who uses t.p. KNOWS that, even if it costs a little more, 2-ply paper is needed for your…paperwork. Single-ply is just being used twice as much. (Don’t get me started on the incredible ways stores have found for stall door locks) Some places have even done away with the lock altogether! (Oh yeah, that’s a nice way to meet new people! OOPS, don’t expect me to stand up, do you?)

I am not talking about Little People here, but the furniture industry is in a serious rut. They create chairs & sofas for the older people, say from the 1800s. Years ago the then Surgeon General, C. Everett Coup, did a video on nationwide TV. He showed people how bad low furniture was for the average American citizen, that furniture made in America was too low! He showed how getting into and worse getting UP FROM the chairs would throw your back out, hurt your knees and just about any ailment you have was caused by this. I cannot sit in a soft chair; at home I have my chair up on blocks so I can be comfortable.

I don’t ask much; I just want to be able to relax without injuring myself!

The chair that can give you heart attacks, is the “Adirondack” lawn chair. GEEZ, these chairs start out LOW, then go waaay down low, you are maybe 3 inches off the ground. If I wanted to sit on the ground, I would. I might end up flailing around on the ground like a cat who just found the catnip stash.

Feel that little chill in the air? YES! Fall/autumn is in the air. We are in the 90s this week but the trees are already starting to turn. The Squirrels (you just knew I could not forget my squirrels, didn’t you.) are eating like there is no tomorrow. The birds too, I think they know something we don’t.

Be ready…Prepare.
