1912

“County Fair Receipts"

Judge Pool, treasurer of the county fair, has the following report on receipts: Receipts at gate, including grandstand and boxes: Thursday $234.65; Friday $239.65; Saturday $202.05 for a total of $676.35. Entrance money $32.00; Mutuals $30.00; From dances $154.95; Concession $5.00 for a total of $898.30. Subscriptions from the businessmen about equals the receipts.

"Doings of a Week"

Miss Marguerite Evans was awarded first prize on some fancy work at the county fair. She is a little mite of a girl, seven years old, but her handiwork will compare favorably with that of the grown-up ladies.

Vere and Fairfax McCarthy left this week for the east to attend the university at Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Engineer Flickinger of Polson arrived this week and will be assistant to Engineer Guy Kirscher, who is in charge of the sidewalk construction and street grading on Broadway. Kirscher has a multitude of duties, as well as his own business, to attend to and he called in Mr. Flickinger to look after the minor details of the work.

1940

“Personal News"

Mr. and Mrs. Shelbby McKay arrived here last Friday from Zacatecas, Mexico with the intention of packing personal inherited effects in the home of his late grandmother, Mrs. Mary Welles, closed since her death with the exception of one apartment. The house will be sold Mr. McKay has announced. This is the first visit to the old home in many years. T.P. Sherlock has been caretaker since the death of Mr. McKay's stepfather the late F.T. McCormick.

In the home were many beautiful antique pieces and lovely china and silver sets. All untouched since the feminine members of the household passed away more than 20 years ago.

1968

“Demolay to Install New Officers Next Tuesday"

The Townsend Demolay Chapter will hold their 24th installation ceremony at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, Sept. 24, at the Masonic Temple.

Being installed will be: Gary Adams, Master Counselor; Lary Richtmyer, Senior Counselor; Victor Sample, Junior Counselor; John Rains, Senior Deacon; Marty Leanhart, Junior Deacon; John Flynn, Senior Steward; Steve Sautter, Junior Steward; Keith Kirscher, Scribe; Craig Biggs Treasurer; Gary Anderson, Sentinel; David O'Herrn, Chaplain; Craig Biggs, Marshal; Dennis Arnett, Standard Bearer; Joe Foster and Gary Richtmyer, Preceptors,. This will be an open installation and the public is cordially invited.

"Winston-Clasoil" News

Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Davies were Sunday dinner guests of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Davies, at their home in Helena.

Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Hohn attended the 25th wedding anniversary party for Mr. and Mrs. Lorin Waling in Townsend last week.

Mary Ellen McNulty of Townsend was a Friday evening dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Baum and family.

Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Hohn and family attended the dedication of the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Townsend Sunday.

1996

“Around Town"

Cecelia Hazelton Elementary School kindergarten children made their annual trip to Edith Alex's home Wednesday to look at her beautiful yard. As always, Edith was happy to have the children and she gave them popcorn and candy to munch on during their visit. Edith said it was a welcome break from her canning.

Spencer and Chris Holling and daughter, Chelsea, Casper, Wyo., are here visiting his parents, Chuck and Eleanor Holling and his Grandmother, Alta Townsley.

Herb and Martha Sprout were dinner guests Tuesday at the home of Marion and Ray Forrey.

Ann and Wally Rauser hosted a birthday party Saturday for Beverly Tronrud, Missoula, and Michael Tronrud, Lakeside. Guests were John Rauser, Derek McArthur and Frances Etzwiler, Townsend; Vicki Rauser, Helena; Mr. and Mrs. Morris Tronrud, Lakeside; Mark Tronrud, Bozeman.
