The Ruby Valley Boys and Barb Wire Played the Canton Church

On Friday, August 9, the Ruby Valley Boys and Barb Wire performed to the largest crowd of the 2024 season. A nearly full church listened to over an hour of country, western and blue grass music. This was the fifth time that band has played at the Canton Church – and they are one of the Canton Church favorites!

The band members are Jim Anderson, John Anderson, Steve Wilcox and Barb Pearson who all live around Virginia City. The band has been performing together for many years and are well-known in the Alder Gulch area. John Anderson joked that they really should be called “The Ruby Valley Geezers and Old What’s Her Name”.

Jim and John Anderson are brothers of Joan Eliel. So, the Ruby Valley Boys and Barb Wire have played 5 times at the Canton Church; but Jim and John have both played with Joan and Tom Eliel on several occasions.

The Historic Canton Church was built in 1875-1876 and is one of the few surviving buildings from the town of Canton which was flooded during the creation of Canyon Ferry Lake. All of our events begin at 5:00pm but the Canton Church will be open to visitors from 3:00-5:00pm before events.

Visit our website at https://www.Canton-Church.org for more information about our events, the Historic Canton Church and the Town of Canton.
