The question is: How many Townsend Tree Board members does it take to plant one small tree? Earlier this month during the cooler weather, Pat Plantenberg and his three-man/woman crew spent about five minutes planting a Pyrus ‘Parker’ pear tree at a home on River Road. The tree was a replacement for one that had died during the freeze in May, according to the owner. The original pear tree was one of many trees in the Townsend area that have died due to winter kill and drought. “So many of our trees have also died because of insects and diseases as a result of stress from lack of water along with extreme heat and cold,” Pat explained.
