Cowboy Boot Decorating Contest Winner Named at the Fair

MT 43 News Staff Reporter

Robin Folkvord won the Cowboy Boot decorating contest at this year’s fair. When she saw the theme of cowboy boots and country roots, she immediately thought “My country roots run really deep right here in Broadwater County”.

She decorated her own cowboy boot with a dogwood branch to which she attached old photos of her parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The decorations included an antique spur and rowel, a piece of her ranch’s barbed wire, a rope and some of her handmade jewelry.

Robin, married to Commissioner Darrel Folkvord, is one of the Williams Family of Crow Creek Valley. W.G. “Bill” and LaRee Williams were her parents. Her great-grandfather Tom Williams came to the valley in 1889 from Wales. She lives on Muddy Lane in the valley, graduated from Crow Creek School, and from Broadwater County High School. For the most part, she has lived within 50 miles of Broadwater County her entire life.

Besides being creative she also sings. She played and sang with her siblings for 25 years in the Toston Flats band. She now contents herself with making what she calls “junk art”. Darrel chimed in at the interview: “Now she collects a lot of junk for her artistic pieces.”

Robin was pleasantly surprised to win the contest. “I wish more people would participate in our county fair. We have such an awesome community. We need to embrace that and keep these community traditions like the fair going,” she said.

Other winners of the contest include a young girl named Rita Campbell, second place and Deborah Freeman took third place. The Fair Board would like to thank all people who entered.
