Wrong Way Accident Ends in Two Deaths

Two people died as a result of a car accident last Wednesday near the Broadwater County line just west of the Highway 287-I90 Interchange.
At 7:20 a.m. Sheriff Nick Rauser received several calls about a wrong-way driver on I90. According to Rauser’s report, the first caller saw the driver, who was traveling East, do a U-turn and go West in the Eastbound lane. About 4 minutes later the office received a call about a head-on collision west of Town Pump at Mile Marker 272.
Robert Askins, age 56, was found deceased. The other driver, Jason Sullivan, 50, of Basin, Montana, was also deceased. Askins had two dogs with him, one of which died of its injuries. The other was taken to a veterinary clinic and is currently being adopted, according to Rauser.
Both the Montana Highway Patrol and Broadwater County Sheriff would like any witnesses to the accident to please call them as both organizations are doing an investigation of the time leading up to the accident and during it.
First responders included Three Forks Fire, Three Forks Ambulance, Willow Creek Fire, Broadwater County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, Montana Highway Patrol, Department of Transportation, Ron’s Diesel, Hardaway Vet Clinic and Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter.
