July 22, 2024, saw the 50-year Anniversary of the Townsend Senior Center. Thirty-five of our local Senior Citizens came for lunch, cake and comradery. An excellent lunch of baked ham and scalloped potatoes was prepared by Carol Anderson and enjoyed by all. Afterward, a 50-year Anniversary cake from the Mountie Moose was served.
Ruthie Knowles, President of the Senior Center Board, made a short speech welcoming everyone before cutting and serving the cake.
Townsend Senior Center Board member Rachael Elliott-Brug was also there in addition to County Commissioners Darrel Folkvord and Debi Randolph. Three representatives from Rocky Mountain Development Corp. were on hand as well.
In 1974 the Senior Center opened as the Townsend Senior Dinner Club. Now, 50 years later it is still going strong and provides meals – both in-house and delivered – to many of our local Seniors every weekday. The Senior Center also provides a home for the local Seniors Pinochle Club.
Most importantly, the Townsend Senior Center provides a place for Seniors to meet and socialize while enjoying a great meal.
