In response to the guest editorial July 12 by Mr. Jeff Schritz

Mr. Schritz,

The County Commissioners and related departments appreciate feedback. In fact, we continually request and invite public comment in written form and at meetings. We encourage comment on all manner of County activities and documents and these requests are made in the newspaper, online, and at meetings for weeks or even months in advance of a Board decision. Constructive, thoughtful comment is always considered and influences many outcomes.

Our exception to your commentary is in the blatant allegations toward your neighbors and friends, some whom you’ve known since childhood, who are the County employees and elected officials serving this community. You are entitled to your opinion, but it is bold, negligent, and dangerously close to defamation to make accusations that County employees receive “slushy ambiguous kickbacks” and receive “financial $$ and trinkets” for preference in the subdivision process. Additionally, you reference the incorrect Montana Code Annotated in your deriding critique of the draft regulations.

You may have valuable feedback regarding our subdivision regulations, and your comments will be taken into consideration, however their substance is much harder to recognize through your self-proclaimed “snark,” accusations, and general, unfounded claims of corruption.

Sincerely,

Broadwater County Commissioners
