Letter To The Editor: Us Surgeon General Vivek Murthy Wants Warning Labels On Social Media Sites
Author: Sharon Obrigewitch

U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy has sensibly called on Congress to pass legislation mandating warning labels on social media sites. USA Today 6/17/24

It’s been in the news, and I believe it was a warning for our children. But I believe it should be for all of us. Many times, I have been to a restaurant, and I see families sitting across from each other, all on their phones. No communication with each other. Are they texting their friends or playing games? Whatever happened to communication with each other? No wonder they say our children are depressed. If their family doesn’t want to talk to you, it would be depressing.

And it isn't families that are not communicating. We had a friend visiting last week. He is 92. He said he has never seen so much hate in the last few years as he has seen today. No one wants to compromise or even discuss a solution. They did on the border crisis, which was written by a very conservative Republican Senator. There was a compromise, by both parties.

Someone told them not to vote on it. I agree Biden should have acted sooner, but I’m sure fault would have been found.

Many years ago, my husband and I were at a wedding. Married couples were asked to dance and stop at the years they were married. We were still there at 52 years. When we were asked our secret, we answered compromise. Today I would add communication. This year it will be 67.

Talk to each other.
