“Doings of a Week”
Grant Dean was in Three Forks this week and entered his horses in the races in that town on the Fourth.
Chris Juhl and Frank Perkins, a couple of Canton’s dry land farmers, were in town Tuesday with an extra broad smile on their faces over the recent down fall of rain.
Joe Schmidt tried to play the role of Chef for a bunch of young fishermen on Deep Creek last Sunday. They went on ahead and were to meet Joe later with the “eats’. But by some hocus pocus both sides failed to connect on the meeting place. What created a soreness in Joe was that the bunch had the “drinks’ and he was compelled to put in the day in company of the “eats”.

“Hurrah for the 4th in Townsend”
Welcome to the Townsend, visitors! You are the guests of the Broadwater Post American Legion today, while here attending their annual rodeo and July 4th celebration. They hope you have a good time and will return again!
If there is anything you desire while here, contact one of the boys and they’ll see that your every wish is satisfied. While here motor around our fair little city. See the city park, courthouse and hospital grounds. Encircle our schools and notice the new homes and pretty yards. If you feel hot, just ask to sit in on some of the shaded yard spaces and above all things, feel at home.
You’ll enjoy the parade on the street at 1 p.m. You’ll enjoy hearing the school band. This band is less than a year old. They have new uniforms and even though their music lacks the quality of a more experienced aggregation, you’ll “get a kick” out of the national airs and American anthems played by those youngsters on this the day of all American days!
Then to the rodeo grounds where Rich Riechter’s riders will give you a brand of the best cowboy riding in the west. You’ll have thrills of western cow punching never dreamed of before, and if you like a real bucking bronco you’ll see the real thing.
Get in on the drawing for those two beautiful saddle ponies by seeing any of the rodeo committee and then to top the day off swing along the dance floor to the strains of Montana’s best dance band – Heinie Mockel and his rhythm artists in the evening at the auditorium.

Mr. and Mrs. L.M. Cooley joined a fishing party at Hebgen dam on the Madison for a weekend. Trowling on the lake brought a good coat of tan and a nice catch of the finny tribe. Mr. Cooley is the manager of the Cooley Gravel company now operating a successful gold dredge in the lower part of Indian Creek.
Miss Dorothy Averill arrived here today for a short visit with relatives in Townsend and Helena from New York. She was accompanied by Miss Jane Bryant of Syracuse, N.Y. and Ed Brown and his mother, who are in America from Johannesburg, South Africa. The party were met in Livingston by Mr. and Mrs. F. H. “City Park and Swimming Pool to be Dedicated Here Sunday Afternoon”
The formal dedication of the new city park and pool complex will be held this Sunday, July 7. Governor Tim Babcock will be the main speaker and will officially make the dedication. The program will start at 1:30 p.m.
Other attractions of the dedication will include a free barbecue sandwich picnic served with a choice of hot or cold drink. The picnic lunch will be held following the program and public inspection of the pool.
This particular project was the first of its kind in the United States. It was built under a new Bureau of Outdoor Recreation program whereby this agency provided matching funds on both the pool and park. The Montana Fish and Game Department served as the state agency which directed the program for the B.O.R. Several people from the two agencies are expected to attend the dedication.
