Family of James Michael Scott

James “Jim” “Tumbleweed” Michael Scott, aged 63, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, after a 7-year courageous battle with cancer at home surrounded by his parents, James and Dorothy, brother David and wife Wendy on his beloved Essheart Ranch in Townsend, MT. He was the first son born on May 30, 1961, in Seattle, WA, to James and Dorothy Scott. He was a 1979 graduate of Highline High School, Seattle, WA and proud resident of Townsend, MT since 1995.

During and after graduating from high school, Jim worked for Albertsons starting as box boy and leaving as a grocery manager in Helena, MT in 2000 when he decided to work for Randy Stewart, Big Sky Trucking, becoming a long-haul driver to be independent, paid to travel, and experiencing something different every day. He knew America’s roads better than anyone. All the lives touched by delivering goods, whether it was food, cattle, hospital supplies, oil or gas, Jim hauled it all.

In 2012 he left the trucking industry to work for Peak Alaska on the North Slope as a Heavy Equipment Operator and Driver before going out on disability due to cancer in March 2020. Jim wasn’t just an employee but part of the families he worked with and always a good friend. A good guy and that’s what this world needs is more good people.

Since moving to Montana with his wife Glynis in 1995, in his free time he lived a life of a cowboy; training, feeding, logging, participating in parades with his wagons, brewing beer, managing the local fair beer garden and of course riding his horses. Spending weeks at a time leading horse pack trains into the backcountry of Montana, alone and with friends, during hunting season, setting up elaborate, comfortable hunting camps for friends and family to use as their base camps for hunting and fishing.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife Glynis Van Alstyne Scott in May 2021, canine companions Snoose, Red Dog and Sally. He is survived by his parents James and Dorothy Scott, Normandy Park, WA. His brother, Stephen (Diane) of Ilwaco, WA; nieces Kaitlyn (Cameron), Kelsie and Chelsea (Nathan). His brother David (Wendy) of Seattle, WA; and forever cherished and remembered by nephews Brandon (Sabrina) and Jared (Abiligal). Extended family members and beloved dear friends Scott Vine and Heidi Larson, son Bradley Larson that will miss him dearly along with many other close friends who were like family to him and who surely all have stories to tell of their mischiefs.

Jim always approached life in a competitive nature and a perfectionist. He who is remembered lives on and we will always remember Jim.

In lieu of flowers and traditional memorial service, Jim has requested to “have a big BBQ party” and burial in his honor to be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, 12pm at Essheart Ranch, Townsend, MT. The family requests spending some QBT (Quality Bonding Time) in the great outdoors with your loved ones in his memory.
